About Dawn Dowsett
Hello!
My name is Dawn Dowsett and I created True Aspiration to talk about the things that interest and inspire me in life and, also, to help me raise my vibrations and keep connected with source energy. It is my hope that you may find inspiration here too. I have called my site "True Aspiration" and it is my intention that I and my readers will together come to understand and realise our hearts’ desires. My dictionary says that to “aspire” is to "desire eagerly". When we identify the desires that are truly from the heart and we feel eager anticipation, knowing that they are already in motion, we cannot help but realise them.
For 22 years I worked as a civil servant and although there were times that I enjoyed my role and had a 'successful' career, it really was not me. I was a square peg in a round hole, not one who works well with rigid rules, constraints and office politics. Nearly all the people I worked with were unhappy and would have preferred to be doing something else they loved. Fear held us back from making a change.
I am grateful to the Universe for the many challenges and conflicts that eventually came my way in the latter years of my career. Although I didn’t know it at the time, I needed a great big shove to put me back on course! This gave me the crisis point I needed to walk away and make a change. When we are out of balance on the inside, this must sooner or later manifest on the outside. Looking back, I see how much easier it could have been if I hadn’t remained stuck for so many years. But I believe it was that way for a reason as I have experienced great contrast, which has now given me clarity. There is nothing like being in an atmosphere of constriction for a long time to give you a huge capacity for the enjoyment of total freedom! I feel I am totally empowered to live a positive and fulfilling life and it is all in my hands.
New Directions
After my departure from the Civil Service, I became involved in the practice of complementary therapies (Reiki, Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Flower Essence Therapy). I am interested in all aspects of holism. I believe that all of nature works in harmony and that this harmony is there even when we cannot see it. It is in the not seeing that imbalance is apparent.
I now feel at a new turning point and it is exciting and liberating to go with what unfolds in the moment.
On an outer level, I have been very interested in personal growth and human potential for many years. This has included goal-setting, motivation and positive psychology. What action can we take in life to realise our hopes and dreams?
I have investigated how we create our reality from our thoughts, feelings and what we envision for ourselves and have run workshops based on "The Law of Attraction" as well as the subject of building confidence. I have been successful with deliberate creation in my own life in a number of ways and have achieved many of the personal goals I have set for myself. I find the action of writing goals down to be very powerful. It seems to magnetise things to you and engage the subconscious mind in working toward what you wish to achieve. This is when many synchronicities start to happen.
On an inner level, I know that this world itself is a dream and I am not the dreamer. In the spiritual sense, "reality" is not found in the illusory world out there. It is what remains when all outer concepts and ideas have dropped away. On my spiritual journey I have dabbled in many areas and found most accord with the philosohies of Zen Buddhism, Taoism and non-duality teachings. So I wish to record some of my thoughts in my blog about that inner journey.
Reconciling those two aspects is not easy and sometimes they seem so contradictory. In a sense it seems to me that the purpose of managing my life through goals and intentions has been to finally let them go and surrender to a greater purpose – one that is really unknown. The great mystery will always be there - it is not meant to be understood. However, it is my nature to ponder on this.
I have a special love and affinity for animals. In them I see the innocence that is at the core of all of us. They are reminders of who we really are. I have always wanted to have encounters with animals, wild and domestic. I swam with dolphins once and that was a magical experience I will never forget. I share life with my Golden Retriever, Hazel. She is a real treasure and I love her very much. And recently we got a new puppy, Daisy. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a pure bundle of joy!
Living in Norfolk, UK I have access to wonderful countryside, beaches and various natural habitats. I enjoy walking and being in nature, watching the wildlife and the changing seasons. I consider myself lucky to live in such a lovely environment.
I enjoy humour (love a good comedy), the company of friends, good food and a bit of live jazz!
I look forward to sharing and connecting with you.
In love and appreciation,
