This week there has been a change in the air heralding the onset of autumn. Although yesterday turned out really hot in the afternoon, the night air was cool and it has been a very autumnal day today. This prompted me to write a poem to record and welcome the changing season.
Autumn
I noticed a change today
There was a different quality to the light
Sharper, less diffused
And the air was crisp and thin
And I breathed it in with thankfulness
His notes more mellow, more relaxed
Less urgent than in the spring
As I listen, I appreciate his wholesome voice
The satisfaction in that heartfelt song Though the spring fills me with anticipation
And the summer rewards me with utter joy
I mourn them not right now
For autumn is offering her bountiful fruits
Her sense of completion and wisdom untold
There is a fullness now
A sense of deliverance, of homecoming
A peaceful calm pervades the earth
And as night falls, the stars light up the velvet sky
And I am in love with the season of riches unsurpassed
